Meet The Team

Malcolm Greenslade

Swimming has been a big part of life for me for many years with lots of competitive swimming under the guidance of some great coaches as a youngster then moving onto triathlon events over 20 years ago and many top place open water swims finishes. I have competed at Masters and Age Group pool Championships as recently as February 2023 and swam National Arena League up until 2019. I also played Water Polo whilst at school and then later with Bridport Water Polo Club.
I have been open water sea swimming and training in and around Dorset and Devon and particularly Lyme Regis on Dorset's beautiful Jurassic Coast as long as I can remember and I taught my children to swim here who are both very accomplished swimmers. It's a great place to swim throughout the year and enjoy the variety of conditions we get here.

I am a former three times British Watersking Champion and European bronze medallist and now enjoy Kitesurfing and windsurfing and love to get out on the board when swimming conditions are, well not that great although this swimming video was shot on quite a big day!

AUTUMN SWIMMING

A lot of my time now is spent with swimmers of all ages who are perhaps slightly nervous about the marine environment or who wish to experience the buzz and physical and mental benefits open water swimming offers. I enjoy motivating and encouraging adults who perhaps would like to revisit or take up activities in later life which helps improve fitness, provide long term health benefits and a feeling of well being. I have also worked with post injury rehab swimmers, Cancer patients and Long Covid sufferers looking to regain strength and fitness through swimming.

I also enjoy working with young swimmers some of whom are from local swimming clubs and just starting out on their swimming journey whilst others are at County, Regional and National level.
I am also involved with coaching various Masters groups for winter pool sessions who are in training for competition at all levels, open water events and charity swim challenges such as: Channel Solo, Channel Relay, Ultra Swim 33.3 Montenegro, River Dart 10K, Bantham Swoosh, Burgh Island Swim, Bournemouth Pier to Pier, Exmoor Swim, Lyme Splash or Age Group Triathlons of varying distance from Sprint (National, European and World Age Group qualifiers) to Ironman (Weymouth 70.3, IRONMAN Wales, IRONMAN Nice, IRONMAN Italy, IRONMAN Barcelona and CHALLENGE Mallorca). I take great enjoyment and satisfaction from seeing my swimmers  progress and achieve the results they are looking for.
I am a fully qualified Swim England Open Water Coach, Level 2 Aquatics Teacher, a Surf Lifesaving Great Britain Surf Lifeguard and RNLI Volunteer Beach Lifeguard. I am a member of the Institute of Swimming with a Safeguarding in Sport Certificate – Sport England and enhanced DBS certificate. I have 20 years coaching experience and an extensive experience of coaching swimmers from novice to elite as Juniors and adults and I have also worked with aspiring Olympic Para swimmers in the Pool and Open Water Para swimmers who are focussing on swim challenges and Triathlon.
All my sessions and operations are commercially insured, risk accessed and thoughtfully planned and prepared taking into account the conditions, knowledge, age and ability of the group or individual and managed effectively and carefully to provide a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all abilities and age groups and follow the sports’ code of Ethics and National Guidelines.

Ben Greenslade

Ben’s passion for swimming, fitness and coaching is obvious and some may say “a chip off the old block”. He was a competitive club swimmer and was part of the National Arena League squad since the age of 11. He won Gold at the South West Regional Open Water Championships in the 17-18 yrs category, and achieved a National qualifying entry time. At University he competed at the BUCS long and short course championships for the University of St Mark and St Johns in Plymouth where he achieved a First Class honours degree in Sport Coaching and Physical Education and a Masters in Coaching and Mentoring and is now Head Coach of Swimming at the University. He is also a Level 2 Strength & Conditioning Coach and competed in Triathlon, including the South West Triathlon Championships achieving top placings in his age group.

Ben is a qualified Swim England Coach and is dedicated to helping his swimmers progress with innovative and progressive programmes. He is also an RNLI qualified Senior Beach Lifeguard covering Lyme Regis, West Bay and Weymouth. He has been involved in rescues, multiple first aid events and the location of missing persons for which his qualifications in casualty care (Advanced first aid), All-Terrain vehicle and Inshore rescue boat crew all come in very useful and a real asset to the Lyme Bay Swimming crew with lifeguard provision and coaching for swimmers when off duty from the RNLI.

  • "Thanks for all your advice and technical feedback. It really helped me become much more efficient in the water." Simon S. Taunton

  • I like to set myself a challenge now and then… last year it was mono skiing, this year I wanted to be able to learn to swim properly - little did I know that Malcolm is a swimming teacher as well as a Spinning guru!! Poor chap had to start me off on sink downs in the deep end and bubble blowing under water!  But thanks to him, I swam the tide assisted 6km Bantham Swoosh in the summer. Not only did he get me doing the crawl in the pool, and then in the sea, but he also helped source prescription goggles and the best fitting swim wetsuit  - thank you Malcolm. SJL, Taunton.
